Road home

Am up at 5am packed and on the road at 5.30. This time we take the main road.
These roads are better then some of the national roads at home and we make good time. My mantra I keep repeating to myself is "keep us cool and keep us safe" and thank you to whom ever was listening as the day turned out to be a cool day promising rain but just keeping it at bay.
The traffic is crazy. As I have mentioned before the only rule is the larger machine gets right of way. The TATA's (the big trucks used for hauling) are kings of the road and you just have to get out of their way. Going around a corner and all of a sudden your facing two TATAs, one overtaking the other coming straight for you and all you can do is hit the brakes and pull off the road. It is challenging but rewarding too. It is great to stop at the small towns. When we stop for a break within minutes there is a crowd formed to just stare at us sitting drinking tea. At one town we lost count at 45 people. You just get used to it though and it does make you feel sort of special, when your in the mood for it.
Another stop to wait out a light shower and sitting under the eves of small house on the side of the road. The Family comes out with tea and melon to refresh us with kids in rags running around gawking at us. Spirits lifted and refreshed its back on the road fighting our way back home.
350 km from Ramnigar to Rishikesh in just over 6 hours. A dusty self satisfied clap on my back as I sit with a well earned fresh lemon soda.
3 days to get there and 6 hours back, its the adventure that counts though.
